....that there is so much more to this world than work.
I have been semi-entrenched in my job these days, what with forum fights and
I seem to have forgotten to take the summer off :)
It occurred to me that I cannot afford to not work this summer but really, I have to start setting some limits for myself. I know it is possible to enjoy the sunshine and run a very tiny Etsy shop all at once so today I took off East to the
It is less than an hour from Portland and yet this is only my second trip in all my years here. It is both beautiful and dull depending on how far east you get. Elsie (my best dog ever) and I went hiking up a massive hill (not recommended for those of us with Etsy legs) and found gorgeous waterfalls and tons of summer flowers.
I so wanted to bring my camera but decided against because many cars get broken into there this time of year. However after seeing all the beautiful things I couldn't share I really think it is worth the risk. I am headed back with it next week so I can show off the purple fields I discovered.
After our trail hike we cruised the small towns just east of the waterfalls. If you go that way, Hood River is a beautiful place to stop for lunch, dinner or even the night. It has Mt Adams and Mt Hood on either side and the glowing white snowpeaks against the browning hills is a stunning sight (damn camera!)
The Dalles, (next big town, way east) is totally not worth the trip but it was kind of cool to watch the overgrown rainforest transition into stale desert.
Not working today reminded me how much I forget to be thankful for my life. It is so easy to get caught up in the chaos of everyday-ness and pull blinders over my eyes. I forget to look around and see all that I have and I really need to stop doing that. I will be revamping the
portion of my blog in an effort to quit forgetting how good living really is.
I hope you get a chance to enjoy it this weekend too, and forever more.
